Would I notice a difference between S video and component video in a home theater projector?

You should notice a difference in component picture over S-video.

At 50 inches, component video is said to be 25% better quality than composite video, and S-video 20% better quality than composite video, for 480i sources.

Your projector is 854x480p, enhanced-definition progressive scan. Use component cables, you should be competent to notice a difference in color fidelity, resolution, and smoothness of carving. Switch on the progressive scan next to your DVD player when you've blocked in the component cables.

  1. Projectors are not practical in a high lit area. But, if you are going to install one, then you need 2000 lumens marginal. For a normal home theater with low or controlled lighting, then you can go next to a 1000-1500 lumen projector.

For a high lit area, I would really recommend a flat panel TV like a LCD or plasma TV.
