The first decision you need to make is how so much you want to put in.
The second is what resolution you want. If you're able to spend over $1000, you can get 1080p (2 megapixels). That will give you the clearest possible image connected Blu-ray and otherwise HD sources. Otherwise you may need to settle all for 720p (1 megapixel).
If you have $2500 to pass, get the Panasonic PT-AE3000U.

Provided you have $1000, and want 1080p, get the Optoma HD20.

If you person $800, there are many good models, such As the Epson 720.

Instead of upsetting too much about specs, narrow it down to a few models, later do a search on reviews. You generally can't do wrong with a touristy projector.

Sony’s VPL-HW projectors go back a few years, with steady model-to-model refinements. Last year it was the VPL-HW20; this year it’s the VPL-HW30ES. Note that the HW30 now carries Sony’s premier ES designation. But there’s more than that to account for its price premium over the VLP-HW20. Not only does the new model depend on its predecessor’s already excellent 2D performance, merely it’s as well 3D-ready, using active shutter glasses you can purchase separately along with an external 3D emitter. Or provided you prefer your projector to be 3D-capable right down of the box, you can purchase it with two pair of model TDG-PJ1 goggles and the TMR-PJ1 electrode included as the VPL-HW30AES for $4,000.
