Sony Xperia J possibly spotted, may court entry-level fashionistas

That didn't take long. We've only known about the Sony Xperia J and its reported ST26i codename all for a short while, but ePrice has already specified the purported starter smartphone the full photo tour. From cursory looks and specifications, the J will position neatly between the Xperia miro and tipo at the arrival of the line and the small but potent Xperia U: while it's not believed to be quite as hurriedly or iconic as the dual-core U, the single-core, 1GHz J could still be faster than its tiniest cousins and endeavour all for any chic with a brightly ginger back wrapped around a 4-inch display. The real high spot may just be an Xperia that ships with Android 4.0 from the get-go instead of requiring yet other upgrade merry-go-round. When the Xperia J shows is still up in the air, despite presumptions of an appearance at IFA; however, we won't be surprised if the J appears side-by-side with the Mint when it's officially ready for a close-up.Filed under: CellphonesSony Xperia J possibly spotted, may court entry-level fashionistas originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 27 Jul 2012 20:06:00 EDT. NYT claims Pome has dallied with investing 'hundreds of millions' in Twitter

Apple has been on a social networking kick lately, what with Twitter's footings in iOS 5 and OPENING X Crest Lion as well as Facebook's future presence in iOS 6. From what the New York Times hears, that fascination could turn much of a fixation. The company has reportedly chatted with Twitter in past months about the possibility of investing money on the scale you'd normally expect from a later-stage venture capitalist: the newspaper is talking "hundreds of millions" of dollars based by Twitter being valued at more than $10 billion. Any such deal would be little about funding (Twitter purportedly has $600 million-plus in the bank) and more about getting cozy in a social world where Apple still has some learning to do. Apple might commonly poverty to dissuade competitors from feat any ideas, we'd add. Neither side volition statement, and the negotiations aren't even supposed to be active At souvenir. Regardless, that Apple strength have even toyed near a common networking investment could represent a major change in tack all for a company that's not always known for playing well with others.Filed under: InternetNYT claims Apple has dallied with investing 'hundreds of millions' in Twitter originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 27 Jul 2012 23:05:00 EDT. Engadget takes a ride on the Faraday Porteur e-bike

We've watched as Faraday Bicycles' first offering, the Porteur electric bike, went from award-winning concept to a fully-fledged consumer product courtesy of Kickstarter. Lately, company founder Adam Vollmer offered us the opportunity to ride one, and naturally, we could not wait seat it for ourselves and put feet to pedals.Gallery: Faraday Porteur e-bike hands-on First impressions are important, a fact of which the folks element Faraday are plainly conscious. The Porteur's white frame, wood fenders, and sea foam green trim pieces and rims provide a pleasing visual counterpart to the leatherwork adorning the seat, frame and handlebars. Add in the yesteryear script of the logo and vermilion detailing work, and it's retro done right -- visually arresting without one gaudy. Element is often the case, the coolest bits of the tandem uncover themselves upon close inspection. We are fans of the leather bag (all for holding smartphones or other sundries) nestled between the parallel top tubes and chain be guard embossed with the Faraday name. And, the appendix of the company slogan claiming it's "the ultimate electric propelled utility bicycle" along with each bike's production number is a pleasant smidgen. Defcon 20 badges rummy hieroglyphs, circuitry and cryptography for hacker scavenger hunt

Every year, the world's hacker population descends upon Las Vegas to trade notes, sit within on informational talks and run in friendly contests -- all in the autograph of Defcon. But this time out, it's the conference's ever-evolving smart badges that've caught our eye, unpaid mostly to what lurks beneath. Designed by Ryan Clarke -- the mastermind behind the gathering's Mystery Box challenge -- these hackable IDs, issued according to status (Press, Human, Goons, vendors, etc), come embedded with an LED, a multi-core processor, IR transmitter and accompanying hieroglyphic graphic. Only that's not each that makes these high-tech tags so special. Turns out, each one contains a game, buried within its widen source software, that's encoded beside several cryptographic, linguistic and mathematical layers. Shying away from hardware-focused hacks of the past, Clarke built this year's scavenger hunt-like unfit to be more inclusive of meeter skills, as it'll force conference-goers interested within cracking its code to disobey thrown social barriers and collaborate with other highly-specialized nerds. What's the end game, you ask? Well, according to Clarke, the puzzle is a continuation of closing year's secret cause romance (compete out by a real-life actor) involving "a [mysterious] society of computer elites." It's not the category of payoff we'd think -- thing greener and encrusted with a certain Ben Franklin's obverse would answer -- but it sounds intriguing enough. How can i convince my parent to allow Maine to buy a home theatre projector?

The first thing you can perform is to post this wherever it belongs, in Y/A's "Families & Relationships" forum where they are interested in "touchy, feely" questions like this.
This is not the Ann Landers meeting, it's Family Theater Electronics, wherever the discussions are centered around technical home theater system and TV operational and electronics problems.

Does the room have to be that dark to see the picture from a abode theatre projector?

How dark would you say? How come a lot of people dont buy HD projectors instead of tvs since they cost little and have bigger picture?

GM testing pedestrian detection system powered by WiFi Direct (video)

Car makers have been peddling wireless pedestrian avoidance systems almost as long as there have been automobiles. (We believe one of the earliest was called the "side view mirror.") GM's new experiment though, differs from other implementations by skipping out on the 3G, cameras and radar -- instead going for a model built around WiFi Direct. The peer-to-peer 802.11 standard hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but the WiFi Alliance is diligently tweaking the platform and apparently GM thinks its a perfect match for connecting cars, cyclists and pedestrians to each other. Unlike 3G-based systems, there's little lag between locating and identifying bikes or people crossing the street since the signal doesn't have to be bounced off a satellite. It also has a leg up on radar detection since WiFi can be a two way pipeline -- alerting someone out for a stroll of an oncoming vehicle. Of course, it will be some time before anything like this actually makes it into a production vehicle. But, in the meantime, you can check out the PR and video after the break.Continue reading GM testing pedestrian detection system powered by WiFi Direct (video)Filed under: Transportation, WirelessGM testing pedestrian detection system powered by WiFi Direct (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 27 Jul 2012 15:54:00 EDT. Windows Phone 8 SDK leaks show quiet upgrades to backup, media and the kitchen sink

The Windows Handset 8 SDK has escaped to the wild, and some sifting through the appliance emulator has dug up elements that Microsoft any skipped or only touched on lightly during the biggest unveiling in June. Media fans might have the most to gain. Panasonic sends 100,000 LEDs down Tokyo river, mates tech with tradition

Provided you'd been by the shore of the Sumida River in central Tokyo this past weekend, you would enjoy noticed that it was glowing a distinct shade of blue. That's because Panasonic approved to kicking off the first-ever Tokyo Hotaru (fireflies) festival by sending 100,000 EVERLED pale bulbs down the stream, both to imitate fireflies moreover as to pay homage to a Japanese norm of floating candles on the water. Before you move too much at the thought of the environmental impact, rest assured that Panasonic minimized the footprint of its liquid LED parade. All the bulbs ran on solar power (presumably, charged during the day) that kept Evolta batteries fed inside, and the entire sight was scooped up in a big net afterwards. We love the exhibition as a large-scale demo of sustainable light -- you might purely poorness to avoid fishing along the Sumida's shoreline for a while in case you catch a straggler.

Update: We've found a video of this spectacular happening -- check it out right after the break.

Price: $3,500 Halogen A Glance: Class-leading black levels • Outstanding pixel sharpness • 3D performance lacking

Last May, I had the pleasure of reviewing the first 3D projector offered from JVC, the DLA-X3. Element just under $4,500, it represented an amazing balance of value and performance. This year, JVC has made some radical changes to its projection line, including two novel projectors with its e-Shift 4K upscaling feature. Exchange end year’s DLA-X3 is the DLA-X30, which adds lens recall to the package on with some new 3D options. But the biggest news is that JVC has lowered the price by well-nigh 25 percent. So does last year’s astounding value become this year’s doorbuster? Let’s find out.

Price: $999 At A Glance: Excellent detail & color via HDMI • Poor blacks & shadow detail • No lense change • Excellent user interface

In some respects, the Optoma HD20 is an exceptional value, providing a razor-sharp 1080p image for just about as little money as any projector I know of. It's overall item and colour are excellent via HDMI, and it offers extensive controls, surprisingly advanced features, and a well-organized user interface. However, the lack of lens shift makes placement difficult without invoking the support control that can degrade the detail a whole lot. And even provided you solve that problem, the shadow trifle is poor, which causes gloomful scenes have large areas of solid darkness rather than subtle low-level details. Finally, at the largest image size I could manage in our studio given the denial of lens shift, the black level was quite high, which means the black of space was dark gray and letterbox bars were obvious. For better performance in this negative area, a larger image is a essential.

Microsoft Research's MirageTable brings some augmented reality to your tabletop

Image

We got a stare at a holographic telepresence project from Microsoft Research earlier this week, but that is far from the single Kinect-enhanced rig it's working on these days. This setup dubbed a MirageTable was also shown off at the Computer-Human Interplay conference within Austin, TX this week, offering a glimpse of one possible future where two people can interact beside virtual objects on a table as if they were sitting across from each other (or simply do hence on top of their own). To make that happen, the setup relies connected a ceiling-mounted 3D projector to display the images on a curved surface, while a Kinect on each terminate of the connection both captures the person's statue and tracks their gaze to ensure images are displayed with the proper perspective. You can check it out in action aft the break, although some of the issue is lost without 3D specs.

University of California, Riverside runs entire building floor off of 1.1-megawatt green battery

We're used to batteries powering a lot of devices, but the University of California, Riverside is upping that a indent by charging up a whole floor's rate. The school's Winston Chung Global Energy Center is walking the eco-friendly walk and has started using a huge wall of uncommon earth, lithium-ion batteries from Balqon to produce 1.1 megawatts, enough to keep Winston Chung Hall's entire first floor humming along while tapping renewable energy sources like solar and entwine power. The batteries bank their energy overnight, keeping the throngs of students happy without having to charge as much or use the regular power grid arsenic a fallback. While it's considered a testbed, the university's giant battery is considered a blueprint for cellular towers and the green potency sources themselves -- the combination of which could keep your smartphone up and running near a lot less of AN environmental hit.

More than niceties about Home Theatre Projector.

Does a home theater projector need to be direct centered with the surface?

Not exactly, as a feature known as keystone correction can fix the trapezoid effect that may occur. Mitsubishi Electric Upgrades Professional Projector Line next to New WD720U and XD700U Models

IRVINE, Calif., May 1, 2012 — Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. upgrades its high-brightness portable projector dash with ii new DLP® models that offer flexibility, easy plot, and a low operative cost, with a long-life lamp estimated to last risen to 5000 hours under positive operating conditions*.

“We’re offering our customers an upgrade path to our markedly successful 600 series of DLP projectors with the new 700 series,” said Wayne Kozuki, product manager, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. “Among many other features, we now offer vertical lens shift and a suite of the latest input connections for even more flexibility.”

The wide-resolution WD720U and XGA-resolution XD700U are planned for educators and business professionals who need an exceptionally bright projector (up to 5000 lumens) that is easy to set up. With manual vertical lens shift, users can plop any projector on top of a desk or array, fashion quick and simple adjustments, and project a high-quality image on a eyeshade or light-colored wall — even in a brightly lit room.

In its continuing effort to reduce the carbon footprint of its products and to metal more environmentally responsible, Mitsubishi Electric’s new projectors give energy-efficient, user-selectable options all for brightness; a secondary manner which uses little than .05 Watts of power under certain operating conditions; and an auto-off function that reduces needless impetus consumption.

Each untried projector offers HDMI™ support as well as natural set-up options all for multiple video inputs. AN RS232 serial connector and a fixed RJ45 signaling offer plug-and-play connectivity with third-party remote management products specified as those made by Crestron and AMX.

Users don't even need a computer to link to the projector; they can simply convert their presentations into .PTG files or into .JPEG metaphors, let go them on a USB flash drive, plug the flash actuation into the USB port for computer-free connection and present directly from the projector. Wi-Fi support is also available for quick connection and operation (optional USB Wi-Fi device sold separately).

Each projector has a special built-in audio social so the projectors can simultaneously play audio from two sources, as as a personal and a wireless microphone. With this “Audio Mix” feature, users can adjust the volume levels of all input for its built-in speaker. Near the projectors in this configuration, an instructor or presenter can throw in key points during a presentation and still Be heard over the video.

The WD720U and XD700U projectors, which use Texas Instruments’ DLP® technology, boast a native 3000:1 contrast ratio for darker blacks, and keep Mitsubishi Electric’s commitment to filter-free technology beside its quasi-sealed pattern that helps prevent dust accumulation.

“We listened to our dealers and systems integrators and brought them the upgrades they involve,” said James Chan, vice president, marketing, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America.  “We’re confident that our new 700 series of projectors will metal welcomed in both portable and simple preset installations.”

The WD720U and XD700U are currently available and come with Mitsubishi’s three-year limited warranty on parts and labor, and a one-year fixed warranty on the lamp. Like all Mitsubishi Electric data projectors, they are covered via the Dress up Replacement Assistance (ERA) Program, a comprehensive nationwide service that offers next business-day replacement** for units that are under warranty. Terms and conditions apply.

What are the negatives to buying a home theater projector?

I would deviate from James E's response slightly by saying that a devout parallel panel TV is still brighter and more vivid than maximum projectors. However what projectors drought here is more than made up for in available screen size. Also, if your projector is right calibrated as he mentioned and if your room is made completely dark then you will be astounded at the picture quality.

Although I was in minor disagreement with James E on this one territory regarding his comparison to TV's I gave his response a thumbs up for pointing out that any inferior audio system such arsenic Bose would need to be replaced. This can not metal stressed enough! The rumble is everything. If you are going to build an HT rules the sound quality is equally important with picture quality. I personally can't take up any commercially available speakers because as far as I'm concerned they are all inferior to what I can build but Bose is the worst!

Another nice advantage with a projector is the ability to build a CIH (Constant Image Height) system. No more black bars top and bottom! To do this you need video scaling and an anamorphic lens merely you'll never have black bars top and stand once more. You module however sometimes have black exerciser to the sides if your pic is not 2.4:1. This is something that merely can not be finished a TV. Straight to eliminate the exerciser top and bottom on a TUBE you any have to crop part of the picture or change the aspect ratio making everyone look tall and skinny. With a CIH projector scheme the aspect ratio remains correct. Also the black bars to the sides can metal eliminated if you want with a motorized screen aperture system.

For myself I have a 60" TV downcast stairs mostly for watching BOX etc. It as a nice surround system with it with a 15" sub. For cool TV looking or some made all for TV movies its fine. If this sounds like your application then maybe a TV is your best option. For upstairs I have a CIH projector policy with a 2.4:1 144" screen. That freedom is surrounded by attic space and has no windows. I can make it totally dark! I have a more than larger undamaged system to go with it. Thus whether this kind of dedicated space is your application then I would say definitely go with a projector.

business projector versus a haunt theater projector? Is there that much of a difference in black levels?

I am confuse near your question. Are you saying you can afford a $2000 projector OR can't afford?

Try using a home theatre projector if you can. The bussiness projectors are not meant for movies. They're meant for slink shows and a small movie clip.

Now you can get a decent Epson projector i.e. around $3500 Canadian dollars with a $300 discount right very soon. I believe the model is the Epson 1080. Epson makes a decent projector.

http://www.epson.ca/cgi-bin/ceStore/Prod…

Ofcourse you can opt to capture the cheaper projector. I have personally seen the Epson 1080 and it does a great mission on the big screen.

Here are also some decent screen about. I consider you should provision more for your screen though. Try to think $1000 all for a surface. They a decent Draper screen would serve you well.

On the other foot you can also paint the wall matte light and it should work As well. You can try looking for the "goo"-this stuff is supposedly able to serve as a screen.

What are the negatives to buying a home theater projector?

Here are the negatives: 1. They're more expensive than a median tv, a 1080P projector that is in the entry plane is nigh on $1,500. 2. The lamp only last 2,000 work time versus tv lasting at less 60,000 hours and cost of lamp could cost you $200 3. You call for a darker room to somebody a decent picture quality. 4. You need a projector screen, depending on the size could cost you starting at $250. 5. The projector has or other input except for the video connection. If used all for gaming 3-4 hours it cut down the life of the lamp, compare to watching a film on blu ray disc i.e. only 1.5 hours to 2 work time. Hope this will support you out.

Looking for a budget burrow theater projector. Will 480p do all for now?

I standing human a 480p pj that I develop within the basement and I'm more than pleased with it. 480p is still E(nhanced) DTV which is a step preceding S(tandard) DTV so you're still getting a diagram upgrade.

I say walk for it, especially if you person an HD box from your cable or Sabbatum company. That box will frozen upscale the 480p to 720p or 1080i which should make the picture even better. I'd be VERY dazed if you weren't happy with the image from the 480p.

Editors Note: Warren Theater is pleased to bring you this exclusive first review of Sony's VPL-VW1000ES, the world's first 4K projector built from the earth up for the consumer souk. With beyond four times the resolution of HDTV, 4K is already transforming digital cinema, and it now stands to create a more engaging and dramatic home house experience as well.—Rob Sabin

Price: $25,000 At A Peep: Superb resolution • Excellent blacks and shadow detail • 4 seasons the pixel density of 1920x1080 HD

Things could hardly be looking better for the video projector fan. The quality you can get today for low $10,000—or even under $5,000—is astonishing.

But the competition is fierce, and to stand out in the crowd, manufacturers are constantly on the lookout for the next big thing. True, 3D is still on its run as the NBT of the period. Beyond that, 4K picture lurks, ready for its time in the spotlight.

Price: $1299 At A Glance: Good detail & shadow detail • Vivid colors • Not-so-great blacks • Excellent user surface

I've ever likable Epson projectors—they generally produce an excellent likeness for a reasonable price, which makes them a great merit. The PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 is no freedom, though it's not quite the home run that Epson's UB (ultra-black) models are. Really , my primary complaint with the 8350 is its not-so-great blacks, which isn't helped much with the dynamical iris on real-world material. Granted, its blacks are better than those of the Optoma HD20, merely they are still too bright to reach a really brilliant photo, especially in dim scenes. As well, colors are not spot-on accurate with this Epson, although I didn't find that bothersome when watching Blu-rays, DVDs, and TV programming. Another surprise—despite color fringing and silkiness I saw in certain test patterns, the detail in real-world content was quite suitable, provided rightful a tad softer than the DLP-based HD20.

What kind of Home Theater Projector should I get? (under $2000) I mean the superfine of the best also!?

All for a 720i/p projector in the $2,000 reach, I'd recommend either the Infocus IN76 or the Optoma HD72. I a touch favor the IN76 because of the very dignified lumens of 490 which is at it's lowest lamp/econo setting.

Good luck!

HP teases new Envy all-in-one printer, glass and metal dotted all ended (video)

Image

We all love teasers, so it's rather swell that HP decided to torture its next Envy-branded all-in-one pressman at the Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai -- almost two years after introducing the Envy 100. As you can see in the above slide and the extremely brief video teaser after the break, this time round the design volition feature a cup control panel, as well as a metal scan bar and a metal hinge under the scanner's see-through eyelid. Pretty hot, we'd chance, and looking back at the Rancour 14 Spectre which shares similar elements, this certainly sets a good example of how the new Printing and Own Systems Team is already bringing a better design consistency across what used to be two different groups. For present, stay tuned for more info.
